Taylor Hulley

Winemaker

Taylor Hulley grew up on a vineyard on Line 1 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, just half a mile from Strewn’s vineyards. Vineyard work was part of his life from an early age. He started harvesting grapes at ten years old and was driving the tractor as soon as he could reach the clutch.

After graduating from Niagara College’s winemaking program, Taylor spent ten years at Coyote’s Run Estate Winery, becoming Head Winemaker in 2017. He joined Strewn in 2022 and now leads the winemaking team, working closely with Niagara growers and the fruit that comes into the cellar each vintage.

Taylor’s approach to winemaking is straightforward: great wines come from great vines. He believes the role of the winemaker is to understand the fruit and make thoughtful decisions that bring out its character. In the cellar every intervention should have a purpose, whether that means choosing the appropriate yeast, managing fermentation kinetics, selecting the right oak or giving a wine the time it needs to develop. For Taylor, the result should reflect the character of the vineyard, the vintage and Niagara itself. While he enjoys working across the cellar, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc are particular favourites.

Away from the winery, Taylor is also a musician and spends his time playing and making music with his wife, Laurel. Whether he is in the cellar, out in the vineyard or behind the drum kit, he enjoys working with something real, staying curious and bringing out the best in what he has to work with.

Jack Cangiano

Assistant Winemaker

Jack Cangiano’s path to winemaking started behind a bar, not a barrel. Working in restaurants and mixing craft cocktails, he developed a curiosity for wine that eventually pulled him out from behind the bar and into the vineyard. That curiosity turned into a full-blown passion while living in New Zealand, where he fell in love with the rhythm of vineyard life and the craft of winemaking.

Born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, Jack came home to pursue formal training at Niagara College, building on the hands-on experience he’d already started gathering abroad. Since then, he’s worked harvests across New Zealand, Kelowna, and the Niagara region, racking up seven harvests and five years of full-time winemaking experience along the way.

An avid traveller who’s explored over 30 countries, Jack brings a global perspective to his winemaking, along with a deep appreciation for the natural world that keeps him seeking out new landscapes whenever he can. He’s drawn to the cyclical, holistic nature of the craft, the way a vineyard’s yearly rhythm mirrors something bigger, and holds a strong respect for sustainable practices in the vineyard and cellar alike.

While Pinot Noir remains close to his heart, his time in Niagara-on-the-Lake has sparked a growing love for Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. At the core of it all, Jack is driven by one simple goal: making something people genuinely love to drink.
